The label will release the band’s sophomore full-length, Latitudes And Longitudes, on 12″ vinyl in November.

Listen to “Limnology” from Latitudes And Longitudes (mp3)

Rarely do you come across a young band that startles you with such inherent quality. While Cleveland, Ohio’s Signals Midwest might be rooted in the ethos of punk rock the band quickly transcends the tag both musically and lyrically on their sophomore album, Latitudes And Longitudes. Paying tribute to the continual growth of legends like Small Brown Bike and Fairweather while echoing modern bands such as Balance And Composure and The Menzingers, Signals Midwest provide a unique perspective that resides firmly outside the punk-by-the-numbers formula.

Signals Midwest formed in late 2008 as a trio and issued their first full-length album in 2009. In 2010 the band expanded to a quartet with the addition of a second guitar player. That would be a pivotal move in the band’s collaborative development. Experimenting with and expanding their sound, Signals Midwest quickly outgrew the standard pop/punk pace. With 2011’s Latitudes And Longitudes there is a fleshed out maturity that shines through. Recorded mostly live, the album bristles with the kind of energy and purpose that emanates from a band confidently growing comfortable in their own skin.

Check out a live video of the album opener, “In Tensions”. The song was the first performance in the “Live from Bad Racket” series sponsored by Ohio Authority.

Also, the band recently shot a video for “The Quiet Persuader” which will premeire on Punknews.org in October.

Signals Midwest has a couple of dates in the Cleveland area coming up supporting some amazing bands.

BIO
——————————————————————————————————

On Restorations’ Self-Titled debut full-length, the Philly quintet creates songs that are layered, tension-building monsters which lean heavily on a rhythm section that could probably knock a hole in the side of a Sherman tank. Still, that never takes away from the band’s ability to craft warm, stirring melodies, enduring hooks and dynamic song structures. Cascading guitars, pulsing waves of reverb and spacey flourishes are held together by Jon Loudon’s raspy-yet-tuneful growl. His delivery transmits confidence, wisdom and a bit of wear and tear – perhaps from years fronting underground DIY heroes Jena Berlin – but he also sings with a soulful, youthful exuberance that feels like he genuinely loves the process of creating music. If you’ve been searching for a thoughtful, nuanced take on punk and indie rock – and all the sub-genres they entail – Restorations might just be your new favorite band.

PRESS QUOTES
——————————————————————————————————

Tiny Engines (Tigers Jaw, CSTVT, Look Mexico, Restorations) is stoked to welcome Gainesville, FL’s Wavelets to its growing family of bands. The label will release the quintet’s debut full-length, Athaletics, on 12″ vinyl and digital formats in late Fall. Pre-orders will come at the end of September.

To celebrate the great news, the band and label have teamed up with the folks at Absolutepunk.net to debut “We’re Really Jazzed About The Gig.” Swing by the site and listen to the exclusive stream of this brand new song here.

Additionally, Wavelets was recently included on the Topshelf Records 2011 Label Sampler. This compilation features some of the very best of the underground emo / punk scenes, including Pianos Become The Teeth, Touché Amoré, Moving Mountains, Balance And Composure, La Dispute, Grown Ups, Bars Of Gold and much much more … not to mention most of the Tiny Engines Roster as well. To download “My Dad The Manatee” from Wavelets, plus 67 other amazing songs, go here.

Recorded by Matt Finch and Ryan Williams at Black Bear Studios (Hot Water Music, Chris Wollard, City Of Ships), Athaletics traverses nine tracks of somersaulting, emotionally charged indie rock (let’s just call it emo) that initially feels a little out of place in relation to the tuneful, gruff punk that Gainesville and its bearded denizens have become known for. Still, great music transcends scenes, genres and geographical limitations; in that sense Wavelets is thriving with its boundless energy and freewheeling, friends-first attitude … not to mention the outfit’s ability to create music that is both intricately complex and instantly catchy. It’s this unique blend of technicality and structural ingenuity that initially grabs our attention, but it’s Athaletics comforting nostalgia and sense of fun that really wins us over and begs for repeat spins. Recommended for fans of Algernon Cadwallader, Street Smart Cyclist and Weatherbox.

Since its 2009 inception, Wavelets has self-released a handful of digital EPs and singles, as well as a 7″ split with hometown brethren, Senders. To download the band’s full discography, go here. Also, if you have an extra minute, do yourself a favor and download the new EP from Dikembe, which features Wavelets front man Steven Gray as well as bassist Ryan Willems.

Finally, be sure to follow Tiny Engines’ Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter pages for more exclusive streams and mp3 giveaways from Wavelets over the next few weeks!

Yeah, so we are fairly terrible with updating this website obviously. I mean, it’s only been 5 months since we last checked in. Hmmm, so what have we been up to? Well, I have been watching lots of episodes of Arrested Development and Louie first and foremost. Needless to say my life is crazy. But, seriously, Beartrap PR is booming so that is keeping Chuck and I occupied for the most part. And I think Chuck has 2-4 kids that he is tending to at times as well. He runs a daycare for underprivileged punk rock kids if you didn’t already know. I have a job but its so mindless, I hardly realize I’m there half the time. I don’t even know what day it is usually. So yeah, life is good. But no more excuses. We are still alive and have some exciting news upcoming.

We have Tiny Engines tee shirts now! That means, we’re a real label now, right!? These are up and on sale in the STORE.

The CSTVT ‘Echo & Light’ LP repress is next on deck. Pre-orders will start mid-to-late September.

We’ve got three new bands/releases to announce. We will start with an announcement on TE109 next week.

Cattle Drums record in October for their debut LP. The record will be a Spring 2012 release.

Still even more news coming…lots in the works right now.

If you have any questions email Chuck. Don’t bother me. Peace out.

- Will.

This is going to be fast (I swear). My reputation as rambling, verbose news poster dude will be shattered and from now on you will recognize me as “Chuck the Brief.” Or at least “Chuck the Way Briefer Than Usual.”

First up, celebrate St. Patrick’s Day – and perhaps the best full-length of 2011 – at Restorations’ Record Release Show Tonight in Philly!

Thurs March 17th
@ Kung Fu Necktie
21+, 8pm, Free
Restorations
Gods & Queens
The Holy Mess

The band is getting its copies of the 12″ today, so head out to what is sure to be terrific show and grab a slice of vinyl goodness for yourself.

Tiny Engines’ copies should be shipping from the plant today and will arrive next week. If you haven’t pre-ordered this amazing Self-Titled LP, do it now and revel in your good decision making and keen ear for sweet music.

And if you’re wondering about the status of your Tigers Jaw or Monument pre-orders, Will and I spent an entire Sunday assembling the majority of it and now I’m just trudging through the tediousness that is inputting names / addresses into the Tiny Engines database so I can print out mailing labels. And let’s not forget that I still need to physically pack up everything and ship it out, which is no small task. There are 200+ orders here and I spend a lot of time loving, caressing and kissing each one. Psyche. I will throw in an extra sticker or two though.

Hopefully I’ll be able to mail a big chunk of those orders out this weekend and then ship the remainder over the course of next week. Thanks so much for your patience , everyone. We really appreciate all your support!

One last quick note (which I’ll probably talk about more at length later) in regards to the newest Switchboard Sessions with Restorations. The band performed versions of “Nonlocality” and “Canadian Club” via the telephone (which you can download as free mp3s) while Dane cranked out yet another stellar feature / interview. Seriously, everything about this site kicks ass. Some of you might recall that Everyone Everywhere participated in a Switchboard Session last year. You can check that out here and read my thoughts about it here. We love you, Dane … and no one else will understand this, but he and I are “Purple Cow Bros 4Eva.” I don’t even think that Dane will understand that.
